A Silver Jubilee: Paulist Fr. James DiLuzio

May 8, 2018

Congratulations to Paulist Fr. James DiLuzio who today celebrates the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood!

He was ordained May 8, 1993, at Good Shepherd Church in New York City’s Inwood neighborhood.

The ordaining bishop was Bishop Basil Meeking of Christchurch, New Zealand, a friend of Paulist Fr. Thomas Stransky.

Here are two glimpses from that day:

Fr. James is a full-time missionary, leading parish missions and retreats.

His most well-known mission is “Luke Live,” a dramatic proclamation of the Gospel of Luke that includes meditations, discussions, preaching and song.

He also presents “Resurrection Faith: How & Why It Makes a Difference.” This mission explores the many facets of death and resurrection as well as the specific details of each Gospel’s Resurrection accounts.

Prior to entering full-time missionary work, Fr. James served at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Community in Los Angeles and at St. Lawrence Parish and Newman Center in Minneapolis, MN.

He holds a Bachelors of Arts in English and Education from Montclair State University in New Jersey; a Masters of Arts in Drama from the University of Southern California; and a Masters of Divinity from the Catholic University of America.

A native of northern New Jersey, Fr. James was an actor, teacher and director of customer service at the Metropolitan Opera before entering our seminary.

He first met the Paulist Fathers by attending a concert at our mother church, the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, in New York City, where he would go on to become a parishioner, lector and trainer of lectors. He credits Paulist Fr. John Collins and Paulist Fr. Frank DeSiano for inspiring him when he was a St. Paul’s parishioner.
