Paulists hold Vocation Retreat in Washington, DC
Participants in the Winter Vocation Retreat included (left to right), Jeeth Kinatingal, Robert Lamorena, David Rooney, John Wilson, David Rider, and Father Ed Nowak, CSP, Director of Vocations. The participants came from New York, California, and Ohio. The retreat was held at the Paulist Seminary, Saint Paul College, in Washington, DC over the February 2nd weekend.
Congratulations to Rev. Mr. Steven A. Bell, CSP
Steven Bell has made his final promises thereby making a lifelong commitment to the Paulist Fathers. Subsequently, he was ordained a transitional Deacon in a ceremony held at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. Steven, pictured at left, holds up a coin symbolizing his "contract" with the Paulist Fathers implicit in his profession of final promises. We congratulate Steven on this big step and wish him well on his continued journey to full priesthood. The story continues...
Welcome: Novice Class of
2007-2008
Phillip Andrews is 30 years old and has a BA degree in Political Science and soon will have a Masters in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. Phillip was baptized Lutheran but raised Baptist. He converted to the Catholic faith diring his college years. Even though Phillip has only been officially Catholic since March of 2002, he has thought of religious life for the past eleven years. When Phillip talked with other priests and seminarians about his goals for religious life, they recommended he look into the Paulists. Phillip is attracted to the Paulist mission of evangelization, particularly as it applies to the marginalized in our society.
Matthew Sanders is 25 years old and has a BA in Religious Studies and Political Science from the University of Toronto. He served as an Infantry Officer in the Canadian Forces. Matthew was raised Anglican with experiences in the Pentecostal and Luthern Churches. He has attended Catholic services since his college years and was accepted into the Catholic Church in the spring of 2005. Matthew is interested in the Paulist mission, especially the aspects of ecumenism and interfaith dialogue. He is also interested in Paulist Young Adult Ministry.
Gaurav Shroff is 35 years old and was born in India. He has a BS
degree in Geology from the Univeristy of Bombay and an MA degree
in Religious Studies from the University of South Carolina. Gaurav has four years experience working as a campus minister at the St. Thomas Moore Newman Center in Columbia, South
Carolina. He was accepted to last year's Novice Class, but left to return to India to take care of some family matters; he returns this year to join the Class of 2007-2008.

Students Make First Promises
Having completed their novice year, seminarians, Claradon "Buster" Woody, Tim Shannon, Tom Gibbons and Rene Constanza made their first promises as the Paulist Community's newest members on August 4, 2007 at Saint Paul's College in Washington, DC while family, friends and fellow students looked on. Congratulations to our newest Paulist
Bartholomew Landry, CSP was ordained a Paulist priest on May 19, 2007 at Saint Paul the Apostle Church in New York City. It was a joyous occasion attended by many of his Paulist brothers, family and friends. Father Landry celebrated his first Mass the next day, Sunday, May 20th at Saint Paul's. We all wish him well. "Openings" - a New Paulist Ministry
Paulist Father, Frank Sabatte has begun a new ministry in New York City called Openings for young visual artists. Father Sabatte, himself a painter, sculptor and mixed-media artist, hosts a gathering of artists each Monday night at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 405 West 59th Street, New York City.

Retreats help Paulist
community prepare for 150th Anniversary year
Two Holy Spirit retreats scheduled for 2007
will bring Paulists, Paulist Associates, Paulist collaborators
and friends of the Paulist community together to explore the relationship
between the Holy Spirit, St. Paul and Father Isaac T. Hecker, the
founder of the Paulist Fathers. Both retreats will include morning
and evening prayer, liturgy, talks, special activities, meals and
lodging.
