Spirituality for Evangelization Mission:
Living our Baptismal anointing as a Priestly, Prophetic and Royal People.

The mission is presented by Fr. Ed Nowak, CSP and Kim Balbach. The mission includes preaching at all the Masses on the weekend plus three to five mission evenings depending on the needs of the parish.

Fr. Ed Nowak, CSP is currently working as the director for vocations of the Paulist Fathers. The Vocations Office is located in New York City. He has ministered in the areas of Campus Ministry in Minneapolis and Santa Barbara, RCIA, Evangelization, Outreach to Inactive Catholics and Young Adult Ministries. Fr Ed has worked with this mission format since 2000.

Kim Balbach is a retired health care administrator. She is a founding member of Good News Ministry and School of Catholic Lay Evangelization, North Carolina, and founder of "The Women at the Well," a ministry devoted to women's issues, and "In His Name Outreach" a ministry for the poor.

The mission planning and implementation offers many possibilities to involve numerous people in the parish. The more people that are involved the greater the turnout for each evening. A Parish mission manual will be sent to the parish to use in the planning process.

The basic mission includes:

Preaching at all the Weekend Liturgies:

  • Evening One: Celebrating the Priestly Character of Our Baptism: Living Our Faith Fully
  • Evening Two: Celebrating the Prophetic Character of Our Baptism: Sharing Our Faith Freely
  • Evening Three: Celebrating the Royal Character of Our Baptism: Transforming the World in Christ

The following evenings are optional:

  • Evening Four: Celebrating Forgiveness: Becoming a More Reconciling Community
  • Evening Five: Celebrating the Eucharist: Becoming a More Evangelizing Community

The format for each evening is:

  • A Liturgy of the Word service
  • Preaching
  • Interactive Faith Sharing Question
  • Ritual Action
  • Closing Prayers and Hospitality

Depending on the needs of the parish the three- or four-night mission could begin on Sunday or Monday night while the five-night mission would begin on Sunday night.

The time of the mission is usually 7:00 – 8:15 pm followed by a social.

Additional Possibilities:

Preaching a short homily at a daily Mass during the mission days.

For parishes with schools presentations for various grades during the school day.

Kim Balbach can be available to lead one hour of faith sharing during the mission days and Fr. Ed can be available for the sacrament of Reconciliation. This hour can be scheduled anytime but usually works best after a daily Mass.

Cover the travel and hospitality expenses for the mission.

Prepare for and advertise for the mission. A Parish mission manual will be sent to the parish to be used in the planning of the mission.
