In Memoriam: Paulist Fr. Dennis Hickey (1940-2014)

Father Dennis William Hickey, CSP, died on Sept. 29 in New York City. Father Hickey, 74, had been ordained for 38 years. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City. Burial will follow in the Paulist section of St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery in Oak Ridge, N.J.

Father Hickey was born in Janesville, Wis., on May 22, 1940. He entered the Paulist novitiate on Sept. 16, 1971, and was ordained on May 15, 1976.

Make a gift in memory of Fr. Hickey Father Hickey’s first priestly assignment was as associate pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Greensboro, S.C. (1976-78). He then served as associate pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (1978-82); Old St. Mary’s Church in Chicago (1982-87); St. Nicholas Church in North Pole, Alaska (1987-89); St. Peter’s Church in Toronto (1989-91); and St. Philip Neri Church in Portland, Ore. (1991-93). He then served as vice rector of the Church of Santa Susanna in Rome, Italy (1993-98).

Father Hickey entered senior ministry in 1998, living at the Paulist residence in New York City until his death.
