Artists exploring the connection between their creativity and spirituality
Openings is the Paulist Fathers' ministry to visual artists.
We believe that artists are moved by the Mystery of God to reveal more of it to each other and most of all to those who experience their art. In the words of Francis Bacon, "The job of the artist is to deepen the Mystery."
Openings is rooted in the Catholic experience of faith, a faith that relies on the experience of the God in whom we "live and move and have our being." We believe in the message of Jesus Christ that all persons are beloved of God without exception or conditions; that God's desire is to love us into fullness of Being.
Openings sponsors programs to fulfill its mission.
On Tuesday evenings from September to May at St. Paul the Apostle Church, W. 59th and Columbus Ave., artists are welcome to the Openings Discussion. Topics include "art and making a difference"; relationships; identity and other issues of concern to artists.
