The Paulists
have received
more than 600
men into their
Community in the
nearly 150 years
of existence in
North America.
Currently there
are 11 men in
Formation to
become Paulist
priests. As the
oldest North
American
religious
community, the
Paulist Fathers
have developed a
reputation for
an outstanding
priestly
formation
program, and are
well known for
taking care of
their senior
priests with
dignity and
respect.
Fifty-four
percent of the
campaign's
proceeds will be
allocated toward
the growth and
education of
present and
future Paulists,
and to the care
of senior
Paulists. In
order to prepare
for the arrival
of the next
generation of
Paulists and --
just as
importantly --
take care of the
current
generation of
Paulists nearing
senior priest
status, the
campaign will
focus on
providing
endowed funds
for:
Paulists in
Formation:
The Paulists are
committed to
constantly
renewing a
community of men
committed to the
vision of our
founder, Father
Isaac Hecker. As
younger members
prepare to
embrace Hecker's
vision and apply
it to the 21st
Century, we
Paulists are
challenged to
provide them
with spiritual,
emotional and
financial
support.
While we
currently work
with modest
endowed funds to
insure the
education of the
men called to be
Paulists, we
know that a
larger endowment
will be required
in the future to
insure that we
will be able to
maintain our
students in
their
theological
education.
Formation
currently costs
$50,000 per year
per student. 15%
of the Paulists'
financial
resources are
used annually to
supplement the
education of men
in formation.
The campaign
seeks to add
$2,100,000 to
the education
endowment to
ease the
financial strain
on the annual
budget and to
prepare for
additional men
in formation.
The campaign
will also
provide $200,000
in funding for
the continuing
education of
Paulists.
Paulists in
Senior Ministry:
Caring for a
brother Paulist
in a facility
for the aging
can cost as much
as $95,000
annually. Today
there are six
Paulists in such
facilities. But
tomorrow there
will be even
more. There are
currently
forty-five
Paulists in
Senior Ministry
Status and 47%
of all Paulists
are currently
over the age of
65 -- pointing to
a financial
responsibility
that threatens
our mission.
Over the next
ten years our
population of
senior Paulists
will reach its
peak level, and
the cost of
caring for them
will undoubtedly
have risen
dramatically by
that time. The
campaign will
increase the
endowment for
care of Senior
Paulists by
$2,500,000 to
prepare for this
increase in
costs, and will
invest $500,000
in upgrading
current housing
facilities to
enable longer
stays in their
ministry
settings.
