There are millions of Catholics in North America who no longer call the Church "home." Regardless of their reasons for leaving, we are dedicated to welcoming them back––with love and understanding.
Through our new National Office of Reconciliation, the Paulist Fathers will greatly expand our efforts to foster the healing that is needed within our Church and in our society.
But we need your help. You probably know someone who's left the Church. Please, join us in encouraging them to return to their spiritual home. Share your own faith with them, and your own experience with the Paulist Fathers––so they may become a part of our active faith community once more.
An excellent way to begin the healing is to ask them to attend a Landings meeting. This highly successful program, founded by Paulist Father Jac Campbell, has reconciled tens of thousands of people. There are Landings initiatives in more than 1,000 parishes and 85 dioceses across North America, so even if there is not one active in your own parish, there is probably one nearby.
Helping Us Find Common Ground
Lasting peace and true justice cannot exist in our society unless we find new ways to communicate with and understand our sisters and brothers of other faiths.
For many years, the Paulists have actively reached out to people of other faith traditions. Our shared goals are to promote mutual respect, understanding and unity.
Through our Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations in New York City, our involvement in the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem and scores of similar programs in parishes and campus ministries across North America, we've been able to put aside distrust and misunderstanding and replaced them with hope for a more peaceful future.
Please, it's never been more important for you to add your voice to this dialogue than now. Share your faith with members of different traditions in your community. Try to develop a better understanding and respect for their beliefs. You will find we have more in common with our sisters and brothers in faith than you imagined.
Instilling Hope and Faith in Young People
It can sometimes seem that there is no place for faith in modern youth culture. But the exact opposite is true––there is not only a place, but a demand for faith among young people. And the Paulists are working every day through our campus ministries and our Young Adult Ministry to help young people understand their role in shaping the Church's future.
On campus, we offer students fellowship and spiritual development two key ways to help them discover that they are not alone in their quest for a deeper, more meaningful life. But we also show them how their faith matters–– not just on Sunday, but in their daily lives.
Our Paulist Young Adult Ministries, headquartered in New York City, approaches this mission on an even broader scale, engaging young people with the honesty, understanding and maturity they demand.
We urge you to encourage students and young people who are looking for spiritual renewal to attend our centers. (For more information on the Young Adult Ministries, click on our link here) And if you're already involved with campus ministry, we hope you will stay involve––and encourage others to join!
Caring and Support for our Senior Priests
They have served in many of our parishes and campus ministries. They have preached countless missions. And each one of you may have a story to tell about them. They are our Senior Paulist Priests and they are an inspiration to us all.
While they are now advanced in years, many of them still actively serve the Lord in our parishes and elsewhere.
We ask that you show your appreciation for all they have done for us by thanking them personally, and by remembering them in your prayers. And you can honor their service through your offering to the Paulist Appeal.
This will give us the means to continue to provide them with the care they need and deserve.
