Anointing Service
On Monday, Feb. 11, we will have a Mass and celebration of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at 7pm. Those who are ill are invited so that they may be strengthened by the Sacrament of the Sick. Those who are well are invited so that they may offer emotional and spiritual support to those who are ill. A person seven years or older may be anointed at the onset of a serious illness or whenever a medical condition worsens. Anointing is appropriate before surgery or whenever a person feels diminished by physical or psychological illness. Elderly persons may be anointed even though no serious illness is present. Feb. 11 is World Day of the Sick and also the celebration of Our Lady of Lourdes.

A Call to Join the Blessed Franz Jagerstatter 2008 Lenten Fast and Prayer Campaign
Community Members are invited to participate in a Prayer and Fast commitment during Lent. This thoughtful endeavor, initiated by “Franz Jagerstatter People to Break the Silence” has as its Lenten goal to purify our own hearts; to ask for forgiveness for participating in the violence of the Iraq war by our silence; to educate Catholics on the nonviolent teachings and life of Jesus; and to encourage the faithful in the United States to fast and pray throughout the Lenten season. The nature and extent of fasting and prayer is to be set by each individual. Signatures will be collected throughout Lent and be sent to the Cardinal on Easter Sunday. Flyers with blank statements can be found in the racks in the back of the chapel.
Auction Organizational Meeting
The Center's Annual Goods and Services Auction is our largest fundraiser of the year, with the proceeds contributing a healthy amount to our annual operating budget. We are starting to plan for this year's auction, the Center's 28th. We welcome any interested community member to come to the kick -off organizational meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7pm. We have a wonderful chair person in place, Rachel Rumely, and a great core group of veterans in place to guide the process, but still have need of many skill sets from cooking to serving to decorating to graphic design to envelope stuffing to database management to clean-up all for the event itself. There are tasks that range from a few to many hours in time frames ranging from now until the night of the auction. It's a great way to meet other community members and have fun all while supporting the Center. Those who come to this meeting have the added bonus of determining the theme for the evening! We look forward to seeing many of you there. Any questions, or if you are willing to help in some way but can't make the meeting, please contact Patty Simpson at 617-948-2428 or pattypcc@aol.com . Remember - the Center relies on everyone's participation to keep our ministries working - so consider this a personal invitation to get involved in a great event for a great cause!
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
As part of the 150th Anniversary events, please join us for a delicious spaghetti and meatballs dinner on Saturday, Mar 1 after the 6pm Mass. Tickets will be on sale after masses and the proceeds will go to the costs for our May 18th Mass and Celebration on the Common.
Liturgical Ministry Update!
All liturgical ministers are asked to complete their yearly 2008 CORI form and turn it in during the month of February. New ministry volunteers or those who are completing the form for the first time must use the green form. All others use the white forms. Forms are located in the El Salvador alcove, and should be returned to Forms Return Box, or to Michael Kurley at the Center. Please also complete one of the Liturgical Ministry Update forms available in the sacristy or the El Salvador alcove so we have accurate contact information for all liturgical ministers. Thank you!
The Little Black Book
A booklet of Lenten reflections based on the writings of late Bishop Ken Untener of Saginaw, Michigan is available in the vestibule. If you enjoyed the Advent reflections in The Little Blue Book, then you’ll be sure to find these enriching as well. Each day of Lent offers a 6 minute meditation on the Passion according to John
Operation Rice Bowl
As part of our faith community’s Lenten observance, we will participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program, Operation Rice Bowl. For thirty one years, Operation Rice Bowl has inspired Catholics in the United States to pray, fast, learn and give as we increase our understanding of our global community and connect that with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching throughout our Lenten journey. Unlike other Sundays when we are invited to bring gifts for the Church and the poor, on Holy Thursday we are invited to offer gifts solely for the poor. And so we welcome you to bring your Rice Bowl to our Holy Thursday liturgy. You can pick up rice bowls and corresponding home calendars in the racks in the back of the chapel.
Prayer Requests
Please Pray for Rosemary Weiss who is recovering from surgery.
Journey with Isaac Hecker and Christ ! Let's mark 15,000 footprints of service as a community!
In honor of Isaac Hecker and in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Paulists, we challenge the community to log 15,000 hours (or footsteps) of service work by Paulist Center community members by next January. Please pick up a sheet in the racks in the back of the chapel that highlights different ideas, or organize an event that the community can participate in together. Then fill in the form to let us know what service you performed. Journey with us to become a stronger community in Christ!
Pastoral Care Seminar
Michael Bousquet, Harvard Divinity intern at the Paulist Center, is offering a three -class Lenten seminar on the art of pastoral care. Come learn how to engage others (and yourself) pastorally in difficult and stressful times. Meetings are immediately after the Sunday 6pm liturgy on 2/17, 2/24, and 3/2 and will end at 9:30pm. If you would like more information, please contact Michael at: mbousquet@hds.harvard.edu
Tax Letters
If you wish to have a letter from the Center for weekend and appeal contributions you made by check or credit card for 2007, please call the Center and leave a message with your request for Patty Simpson at (617)948-2428 or email her at pattypcc@aol.com. The IRS requires letters for single donations of $250 or more (i.e. several smaller donations totalling $250 do not require letters), and the letter is for your records only - it is not submitted to the IRS with your tax returns. Anyone who made a donation of stock will automatically receive a letter by Feb. 1.We sincerely thank all who gave to the Center in any way. Your generosity is essential and appreciated.
Connecting at the Center
In an effort to improve connections and foster inclusion, the Pastoral Council is encouraging folks to wear a name tag during the Community Coffee in the Auditorium after the 10am and Noon mass. Stop at the table in the Auditorium and put on a name tag so we can learn to call each other by name.
